LaVern Scherner passed away peacefully in Roseburg, Oregon on July 15, 2024. She was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Regal, Minnesota, to parents Carl and Janetta Enander. At a very young age, her parents moved to Roseburg, Oregon, where she lived most of her life.
LaVern attended Roseburg Schools and graduated from Roseburg High School. While in high school she met her high school sweetheart, William "Bill" Scherner. They were married on Sept. 27, 1941, in Sunnyvale, California, where Bill was stationed in the Army at Moffett Field. After Bill was discharged from the Army, with the rank of Master Sergeant, Bill and LaVern moved back to Roseburg. They eventually built a home on what was known as "daddy's hill" where they raised their three children.
Mother was an amazing homemaker. She was the best at cooking old-fashioned recipes or cooking from scratch. Nothing could compare to her homemade lemon, apple, marionberry or gooseberry pies.
Mother devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She set no boundaries and loved all of us unconditionally. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with us. Mother was content and grateful for the life she lived. The day she left us for a better place our hearts were broken, but we know she has found peace and rest. She was the heart of our family, and she will forever live in our hearts.
LaVern is survived by her daughter Barbara Marklund (Bob); grandchildren Rod Barnes, Jana Hesemans (Mathias), Loy Maddox (Shawn), Stacy Miller (Rosalyn), Cheri King and Brodie Miller (Crystal); great- grandchildren Ashley, Jordan, Kristen, Mathias, Loren, Rex, Luke, Brionna, Aubrey, Blake, Ryland and several nieces and nephews.
LaVern was preceded in death by her parents, husband William (Bill) Scherner, daughter Janet Barnes (Dan), son William (Bill) Scherner, sister Wilhelmina Waln and brother Kermit Enander.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Gerald Jaworski and his staff for the many years of compassion and caring given to mother.
We would also like to thank the staff at Callahan Assisted Village and mother's "girls" who made mother feel loved and special.
