James L. Jerles Age 83, passed away December 13, 2016, in Roseburg, Oregon.
Jim was born May 7, 1933, in Cleveland, TN. He was one of nine children born to Pona and Lina
Jerles. All have preceded him in death.
Jim joined the Navy in 1951, and retired in San Diego in 1973. He was proud to have served his country during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy, Jim went to work for the VAMC in La Jolla, CA, and in 1976, transferred to the VAMC in Roseburg, OR, where he worked until his retirement in 1988.
After his retirement, Jim and his wife, Donna, moved to Coos Bay where they lived until Donna passed in September of 2015. After Donna was gone, Jim returned to Roseburg to be closer to his family. Jim spent the last year of his life at Riverview Terrace.
Jim is survived by his daughter and son in-law, Nancy and Bobby Joplin of Roseburg, OR; daughter,
Claudia Lambkin of Merritt Island, FL; granddaughters, Virginia Height of Merritt Island, FL,
Danielle Sapia of Fayetteville, NC, Natalie Joplin of Roseburg, OR; grandson, Jacob Reid of Lyman, WY; and great-granddaughter, Julia Grace Height of Merritt Island, FL.
Jim was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Donna; daughters, Virginia, Elaine and Julie; and a grandson, James.
Jim will be buried at sea through the Navy out of Bremerton, WA. No services will be held per his request.
