James Birman

James "Jim" R. Birman passed away on June 27, 2025, at the age of 87 in Roseburg, Oregon. He was born in Roseburg on Jan. 8, 1938, and lived a life full of service, dedication, and laughter.

In 1955, Jim proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving for four years, including a five-month tour of duty in the Western Pacific aboard the escort vessel Bridget. Following his honorable service, Jim married the love of his life, Audrey Hostler, on May 8, 1959, in Roseburg. The two were married for 56 years until her passing in January 2016.

In their early years together, Jim and Audrey moved to Reseda, California. Jim began working in the movie and television industry. He was known by many as "the guy who worked with Elvis," a memory he carried with pride. After a production company strike, the family relocated to Tenmile, Oregon, where Jim began a new chapter, working as a millwright for Roseburg Forest Products. He remained with the company from 1973 until his retirement in 2002.

Jim had a deep love for golf and was a lifelong fan of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Dodgers. He spent countless hours on the golf course and in front of the television cheering on his favorite teams. One of his greatest joys was traveling to the island of Kauai with Audrey, where they spent many cherished vacations golfing and enjoying time with close friends.

Jim is survived by his children: Bob Birman (Lori), Bill Birman (Candy), and Barbara Birman; his grandchildren: Tyler Birman (Brianne), Darci Folsom (David), Bret Birman (Sam), and Jami Hill; and six great-grandchildren: Peyton, Kadin, Sawyer, Kyler, Lillian, and Jayde. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara J. Birman. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey; his parents, Esther and John; and his siblings: Richard, June, Vi, Cal, Al, and Kay.

Jim will be remembered for his contagious laugh, his friendly conversations, and, above all, his deep love for his family.
