Irene Elizabeth Freitag

August 6, 1921 — December 13, 2016

Irene Freitag, age 95, of Roseburg, Oregon, went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2016. Irene was born in Topeka, Kansas to Clarence and Matilda Plott. She grew up in the Coquille, Oregon area. Then, as a young adult, she worked as a nurse's aide in Coquille, where she met and married Joseph Freitag in 1942. They were married for 57 years. They were a match made in Heaven! God, faith and family were most important to them. Irene prayed several rosaries a day, with her husband, after retirement and attended Sunday mass every week. As their children, we all knew the rosary would be said each night.
About one year after getting married, Joe and Irene moved to Idaho to start farming. They lived in Idaho for 20 years, where they raised their six children, farmed and had a dairy herd.
In 1974, they both retired and moved into their dream house in New Plymouth, Idaho, where they lived for seven years, at which time, they relocated to Roseburg, Oregon to be near their six children. They have lived in Roseburg for the past 34 years.
Irene enjoyed cooking, golfing, dancing and gardening. She was always praying and caring for her family and home.
Irene loved Christmas and always made it a very special holiday. She gave all of her kids great and wonderful memories of Christ's birthday! John and Marie Knott, of Japan, wanted to honor great grandma Irene by naming their daughter, who is due to be born soon, after her. This made Irene very happy.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph, in 1999; two sons Jerry and Jimmy; grandson Danny; and three sisters Frances, Lucy and Ruby. She is survived by her five children; Ed (Nancy) Freitag of Bandon, OR, Louise (Bob) Morrison, of Eagle Point, OR; Ted (Trish) Freitag of Bandon, OR, Threasa Knott of Roseburg, OR and John (Pauline) Freitag of Bandon, OR; 25 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Joel Lee and his staff; to Father Jose Manuel Campos Garcia and Father Cletus Osuji, of St. Joseph Catholic Church, for bringing the Blessed Sacrament to our mother during her illness and Heidi who was such a great help in the planning of our mother's funeral mass. Also, a very special thank you to all of our mother's caregivers, who cared so lovingly for her and made themselves always available to come help at any time and to mom's grandson, Jeremiah for all of his help, love and time given to help care for his grandmother. Thank you and God Bless you all!
God bless the soul of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Irene, or as we all affectionately called her, "Moe-Moe". Visitation will be held from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 19th , with a Rosary to follow, at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. A Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 20th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with graveside services and a reception to follow.
