George W. Schriner 86, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Friday, August 29th, 2025.
George was born April 6, 1939, in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, and a few years later relocated to the "Hills of Tennessee" as he was fond of saying. The family later moved to Roseburg, where he graduated from high school. A few years later, he married Elva Loretta Morris on June 4, 1961.
George and Elva had two daughters Wendy and Cindy, who both still live in Southern Oregon and a son named Keith, who lost his battle with leukemia at age five. They were married for 64 years and also enjoyed their three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Later in life, he made every attempt possible to be at every barrel race, volleyball game or baseball game he could get to just to see his grandkids compete.
His love for water skiing drove his desire to have a cabin at Tenmile Lake and in 1970, that dream became a reality when he bought a bare piece of property and built a cabin with only hand tools on weekends. There was no electricity there at the time, nor running water. The family still owns and enjoys that cabin today.
George's other primary passion was building, modifying and even racing hot rods and classic cars. He was one of the early members of the Umpqua Flatheads, who is credited as one of the driving forces behind the "official" Graffiti Night in Roseburg. His pride and joy hot rod was a 1932 Ford coupe that ended up hot pink and was a well-known favorite at local car shows for years. His other interests included hunting, fishing and camping. He took several annual trips to the Eagle Cap Wilderness in Northeastern Oregon, where he loved to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. This was one of his favorite places on Earth to visit.
George spent his entire working life in the Roseburg area, starting early on at Drive-n-Save market, but more notably spent decades opening new stores, remodeling existing stores and was in purchasing for a while, all for Abby's Pizza.
He will be remembered most by those who knew him as the guy who knew how to FIX everything and could work on anything. Always willing to lend a hand or two whenever a family member was in need, he travelled extensively, putting his skills to work. Those of us who knew and loved him will always remember his quick smile, his witty sense of humor and his willingness to laugh. He was always gracious and kind to those around him and he will be forever missed by us all.
George is survived by his wife Elva, daughters Wendy Egli and husband Dennis, Cindy Lomica and husband Todd, his grandchildren Lacy Stovner and husband Luke, Brooke and Cody as well as great-grandchildren Jolene and Wade.
George was nearly always at Abby’s Pizza on Friday nights, so in his memory we are having his Celebration of Life from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Abby’s Pizza Annex on Stevens Street in Roseburg. All family and friends are invited to join us.
