With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we announce the passing of Anita Martinez Garza on March 31, 2025, at the age of 92. She left us peacefully, to be with our Lord and Savior, in Roseburg, OR. Anita departed this world as she lived, surrounded by family that loved her.

Born on February 7, 1933, in Uvalde, Texas, Anita was one of seven children born to Jose and Elena Martinez.

Anita kept her family close by always reaching out and checking on each family member to make sure they felt loved. Anita had a fun and energetic personality that made her the heart of her family. She was a constant source of lightheartedness, strength and laughter.

Her journey began with humble beginnings and her life was marked by steadfast dedication to her family, her church, community and friends.

On February 21, 1957, Anita married the love of her life, Richard Garza, and soon after, moved their growing family to Roseburg, Oregon in 1961. Together they nurtured a family of six boys with endless love and devotion. Anita and Richard shared a beautiful life together for over 50 years.

For over 18 years, Anita faithfully dedicated her time and service to St. Joseph’s Church. In addition, she taught Spanish to children at Rose School and provided interpretation support in Roseburg and surrounding communities.

Anita poured her heart into caring for her large family. Anita loved to cook and could whip up a full meal in a matter of minutes. Her family fondly remembers how her home was always filled with the comforting aromas of Mexican food, drifting through every room, no matter the day of the week. Anita also had a passion for shopping and was always on the hunt for good finds at her favorite stores, Macy’s and Harvard Drug Store.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Garza Sr.; son Raymond Garza; her parents and 5 siblings.

Anita is survived by her sons Richard (Lachelle) Garza Jr., (Carol, spouse of late son Raymond) Garza, Robert (Miriam) Garza, Ralph (Amy) Garza, Raul (Jessica) Garza, Eddie (Dana) Garza, sister, Dora Mireles and 25 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Anita Garza leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion. Her memory, strength and warmth touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed and will live on in the hearts of those that knew her.
