June 23, 1932 - April 20, 2010
1932-2010 Loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the age of 77, at her home in Roseburg, Oregon, after a 12-year battle with Leukemia. Sallie was born in Sacramento, California, on June 23, 1932, to Ira Francis and Nina (Blake) O'Neil. Sallie was a third generation born in Sacramento; her great-grandfather having emigrated from Ireland. Sallie was raised in Sacramento, graduated from St. Francis High School in 1950 and attended Junior College. Sallie was introduced to her husband Wayne by his navy friend in 1952. They were married on May 8, 1954, in Sacramento, California, and moved to San Luis Obispo, California, while Wayne completed his bachelor's degree. After college they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, for five years, where their two daughters were born. They then returned to Sacramento for five years before settling in the San Jose Area (Saratoga and Santa Clara) for 21 years. Once her daughters were raised Sallie joined the job market as a switchboard operator at Lockheed Missiles and Space Company where Wayne also worked. During that time Sallie was active in the LMSC Roving Rockets RV Club. After retiring in 1987, Sallie was happy to leave her busy life in the San Jose Area and moved with her husband to a quiet retirement life in Roseburg, Oregon. In Roseburg Sallie continued to be an active RV'er with the Elk's Umpqua Ramblers, Dougco Sams and the Moose on the Loose RV clubs. She also loved to travel, visiting most of the states and several countries. Like many of their friends, Sallie and her husband became snowbirds, spending winters in Mexico or Arizona. Sallie is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Wayne Taylor; daughters, Lisa Diane Taylor and Sherry Taylor Phillipsen and her husband, Paul Phillipsen; grandchildren, Erika, Cristen and Gina Phillipsen all of California. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Ottenheimer for his aid in Sallie's long fight against Leukemia, and the compassionate help provided by Amedisys Home Health Care. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Wilson's Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg, with a reception immediately following at the Elk's Lodge in Roseburg. Interment will be a private ceremony in Sacramento at the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery, O'Neil family plot. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Douglas County Cancer Services, 2880 NW Stewart Parkway, Suite 202, Roseburg, Oregon, 97471.
