    Avalene Long

    July 18, 1920 - May 1, 2011

    Abby went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 1, 2011 with her family by her side. Abby was born on July 18, 1920 to Roy Benjamin Cooper and Sarah (Sallie) Lemontine Darnell-Cooper in DeKalb, Texas and is the youngest of 7 children. Abby married James Colon Walker on October 24, 1938 and they moved to Oregon in July of 1950. Abby worked for Mercy Hospital and Douglas County Courthouse. She was a member of the Vine Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her two cats (Dude and Mary Jane), cooking, gardening and watching the Mariners. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, husbands James Walker (32 years) and Hobart Long (19½ years). She is survived by her 5 children, Garland Walker (Peggy) of Glide, Oregon, Caroline Phillips (Olen) of New Boston, Texas, Mickey Walker (Vi) of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Gary Walker (Ninabelle) of Stayton, Oregon, Vickie Petsch (John) of Eugene, Oregon, 12 grandchildren, Tammy Norrington (Don), Pam Starkjohann (Greg), Darrin Walker (Kelly), Mike Walker, Mark Walker (Leann), Mike Phillips (Cathy), Christen Wilson (Derek), Ben Phillips (Rebecca), Darla Smith (Scott), Laurie Coffey (Nick), Allison Miller (Jay), Ashley Petsch, and 15 great-grandchildren Amanda and Nicholas Catania, Erin Starkjohann, Linsay Phillips, Trinity Lewis, Truman and Tate Wilson, Oliver and Elli Phillips, Kayla and Megan Woychak, Hayden and Hunter Smith, Miriam and Corinne Coffey. She is also survived by her only sibling, 103-year old Ola Humphries of DeKalb, Texas. Visitation will be held May 3, 2011 from 1-5pm and a memorial service will be held May 4, 2011 at 10am, both at Wilson Chapel of Roses. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Vine Street Baptist Church in Roseburg, Or.
