March 30, 1932 - October 25, 2011
Alice Louise Greenwell died October 25, 2011 at the age of 89. She married Emmett in 1948 and soon after they moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a secretary and her husband drove a truck for 7-Up. They moved again in the mid 50's to El Monte, California. This is where they raised their 3 children. Mom was able to be a "stay-at-home mom" with all of her children. She was the BEST mom ever. She loved us and we felt it everyday. She taught us to be kind and compassionate people. She never raised her voice or her hand to any of us. Even as small children, she always treated us with respect and dignity and made us each feel very special. Her life was her family. In 1985 our dad retired from the construction business in California and they moved to Roseburg. By 2003 all of their children and half of their grandchildren lived in Roseburg also. In 1991 when her husband of 45 years died, she began volunteering with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary as a "pink lady". She was also volunteering with the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) at a craft shop called "The Vintage Crafters". She volunteered for over 10 years. She loved being active and helping community. In 2000 she moved to Oak Park Assisted Living Community where she became the unofficial "welcoming committee". She was very popular there. Everyone wanted to be Alice's buddy. Mom lived there for about 8 years. She most currently was living at a wonderful adult foster care home in Myrtle Creek called Miller Manor where she was not only cared for but loved as a member of the family. Mom, we miss you more than you can ever know. We'll love you always!! We'll see ya later, Mom. Give our love to Dad. Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Emmett, her grandsons, Jeffrey and Jason Owen and her brother, Joseph Porter. She is survived by her children, Gary (Kathy) Greenwell, Terry (Jim) Owen and Nancy (David) Lawrence. Her grandchildren, Heidi (Steve) Lander, Jamie (Darren) Hoschouer and 5 great-grandchildren, Tyler & Brad Lander and Trenton, Haydon and Madison Hoschouer, all living in Roseburg. Please make Donation's to Mercy Hospice.
